Sex Based Medicine: Helpful or Harmful?

March 19, 2025

Last week, the Moynihan Center hosted an event titled “Sex Based Medicine: Helpful or Harmful?” featuring Dr. Catherine Clune-Taylor from Princeton University, Dr. Anais Hausvater from NYU Langone Health, and Dr. Sarah Richardson from Harvard University, and moderated by Moynihan Public Scholar Angela Saini.

The panelists discussed the implications of the recent surge in women’s health awareness, fueled by increased funding and advocacy for treatments intended to address women's unique biological differences. Drawing on expertise in history, philosophy, and cardiology, the panel examined whether and how an emphasis on sex differences genuinely improves patient outcomes or potentially diverts attention from more fundamental social determinants of health disparities.

Following the panel discussion, the audience had the opportunity to engage directly with the panelists during an enlightening Q&A session.

We extend our gratitude to the panelists for sharing their expertise!
