I only had the privilege of meeting Liz towards the end of her extraordinary life, because of her commitment to The City College of New York, her late husband’s alma mater.
She came to us with a vision, which was to create a springboard for CCNY’s current and future students to follow in Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan’s footsteps, by launching their careers towards the top ranks of public service and intellectual inquiry.
Through her unshakeable sense of purpose, ongoing oversight, and frequent exchanges she helped infuse the Moynihan Center at CCNY with a mission and an intellectual direction: something she both ambitiously and affectionately referred to as the goal of forging the “Moynihans of the future.”
Her guidance will be sorely missed, but her and her husband’s legacy will live on in the institution she helped to create and in the achievements of the students, the public scholars, and the public servants it will support in their journeys.
It was an honor to know her and while we are deeply saddened by her loss, the new Moynihan Center at CCNY will forever remain a home to Liz and Pat Moynihan’s memory.
