Public Service Fellows Participate in NextGen Service Summer Policy Academy
August 28, 2025
Two Moynihan Public Service Fellows participated in the NextGen Service Summer Policy Academy over the summer, completing specialized programs that equipped them with invaluable skills for future careers in public service.
The program launched in Washington, D.C., bringing together 75 students from across the country for public service career exploration and networking. The D.C. experience featured conversations with Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis, panels with policy leaders Norman Ornstein and James-Christian Blockwood, networking with over 50 public service professionals, and visits to organizations like the United Nations Foundation and the Capitol. Following the D.C. phase, students traveled to several host campuses for intensive two-week residential programs.
Senthian Mugisha completed her program at the Evans School of Public Policy & Governance at the University of Washington. "This opportunity was truly life changing," Senthian shared. "Because of this program I feel deeply prepared for the real-world intersections of policy and service." She was particularly excited about networking with change makers working to make public service more inclusive.
Meanwhile, Vanessa Lopez completed her program at UC Berkeley's Goldman School of Public Policy, studying Law and Public Policy. Standout moments included touring the California State Capitol, visiting Governor Gavin Newsom's office, and participating in a mock court, providing her with valuable insight into realistic legal practice and debate.
Thank you to The Volcker Alliance Next Generation Service Corps for providing Senthian and Vanessa with this opportunity.
