The Moynihan Center at The City College of New York (CCNY) is pleased to announce the selection of two exceptional scholars for its 2025–2026 Moynihan Postdoctoral Fellowship program: Youbin Kang and Anne Mishkind.
The Moynihan Postdoctoral Fellowship program selects promising early-career academics who play a vital role in the Center's mission to revitalize civic life through the traditions of free inquiry, open debate, and public service. Fellows spend between one and two years at the Center researching, teaching, and engaging in substantive dialogue across difference, while communicating scholarly insights to broad audiences.
"Our postdoctoral fellowship program creates a unique space for the next generation of scholars who are committed to bridging academic research and public engagement," said Carlo Invernizzi Accetti, Executive Director of the Moynihan Center. "Anne and Youbin bring fresh perspectives and rigorous scholarship to our intellectual community, embodying the kind of interdisciplinary approach and commitment to open dialogue that is at the heart of our mission."
The 2025-2026 Moynihan Postdoctoral Fellows represent diverse academic backgrounds and research interests:

Anne Mishkind is a political theorist whose research examines schools as central sites of civic subject formation and political contestation. She will receive her PhD in Political Science from Yale University in May 2025. Her dissertation, "Genealogies of Autonomy: Schooling and the Politics of Civic Subject Formation," investigates U.S. education discourse as a window into broader debates about liberalism, political ideology, and American values.
"I'm incredibly excited to join the Moynihan Center and be part of its dynamic interdisciplinary community," Mishkind said. "At a time when educational institutions are under attack, we have an important obligation to affirm the role of the university in fostering open, challenging conversations that bring together multiple perspectives. I look forward to engaging in meaningful dialogue about the future of our democracy, learning from my colleagues, and fostering a critical space for discussions with students."

Youbin Kang is a sociologist whose research examines the intersection of labor relations, urban infrastructure, and political economy. They received their PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where their dissertation traced the historical evolution of public transportation funding and labor relations in New York City and Seoul from the mid-1970s through 2022.
"I am thrilled to join City College as a Moynihan Fellow and excited about the opportunity to engage with scholars, policymakers, and students about important questions facing urban life and its communities in New York City," said Kang.
Michael Miller, Managing Director of the Moynihan Center, emphasized the program's role in cultivating the next generation of public scholars: "Our postdoctoral fellowship provides early-career scholars with a unique opportunity to develop their research while engaging with practitioners, journalists, and students in ways that transcend traditional academic boundaries. Anne and Youbin will contribute immensely to our intellectual community while receiving mentorship that will shape their approach to public-facing scholarship."
Daniel DiSalvo, Chair of the CCNY Political Science Department and Chair of the Moynihan Public Scholars Advisory Committee, noted: "The postdoctoral program serves as a vital bridge between our undergraduate and senior fellowship programs. These scholars bring cutting-edge research and fresh perspectives that enrich our entire community while gaining valuable experience in translating complex ideas for broader audiences."
The Moynihan Postdoctoral Fellows become integral members of a dynamic society of fellows that creates unique opportunities for intellectual exchange across career stages and disciplines. Through regular interaction with other postdoctoral researchers, Public Scholars, City College faculty, and promising Undergraduate Fellows, Postdoctoral Fellows participate in an intellectual community that bridges generational and professional divides while fostering meaningful dialogue on pressing public issues.
