Panel | Imagining the Future(s) of City Planning through Science Fiction

Exploring the Intersection of Science Fiction and Urban Design

On April 10th, Moynihan Public Scholar Daphne Lundi led a lively discussion along with Pilar Finuccio, Executive Director of the Center For Urban Pedagogy (CUP); Kenyatta McLean, Co-Managing Director of BlackSpace; and Meghan McNamara, Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Octavia Project.

Together, during this panel discussion, they explored how the alternate-world building work of science fiction writers may offer critical tools and perspectives that can inform the real-world building work of urban planners and designers.

Attendees included Moynihan Undergraduate Fellows, City College faculty and students, and members of the Harlem community. The audience was highly engaged and contributed thoughtful provocations to the panelists on subjects that ranged from climate change to Star Trek to Jane Jacobs and Le Corbusier.
